Truth, Lies, and the Space Between

Dear One,

There is a belief many of us carry:

that truth sits above all things—absolute, unquestionable.

That it must be spoken, no matter the cost… even when it hurts,

even when it annihilates the one who receives it.

For some, this is justification enough.

 Truth, at any cost.

But pause.

Is truth ever shared without a voice behind it?

Without intention shaping how it’s delivered?

Without motive guiding what it’s meant to do?

Perhaps truth is not only what is said,

but who says it, why they say it,

and what they hope it will accomplish.

A truth spoken in anger does not land the same

as a truth spoken in care.

We tend to treat lies more cleanly.

A lie is wrong. Full stop.

And yet—

What of the lie told to protect?

To soften what cannot yet be held?

To buy time, or shield something fragile?

Does its meaning shift when we look more closely

 at the person telling it…

at what they fear, or what they are trying to preserve?

Or do we close the door too quickly

when we name something a lie,

 missing what sits beneath it?

In the Quiet Room, our role is different.

Not to decide.

 Not to judge.

Not to take sides between truth and lies.

But to become quietly curious.

You might ask:

  • Who gains from this truth… or this lie?
  • How important is this truth in this moment?
  • What sits underneath what is being said—what deeper truth might be trying to surface?
  • And once you see it… what, if anything, will you do with that understanding?

Here, you are not asked to reach a conclusion.

Only to listen.

 Closely. Quietly.

To notice not just the words,

 but the weight they carry.

To question not only the speaker’s motives—

 but your own.

What do you protect?

 What do you reveal?

 What do you avoid?

And what does that say about you?

Take your time.

Let the questions stay a little longer than feels comfortable.

Sometimes the most honest place we arrive

 is not certainty—

 but awareness.

And in that awareness, something often shifts…

 quietly, without force.
